Using the Wind for Energy
In a way, wind energy is a converted kind of solar energy. The rays from the sun warmed the ground and make the atmosphere warm. As the hot air rises, the atmospheric pressure of the earth is reduced and cooler air sinks to take its place. This cool air creates wind. Since air contains mass, as it moves, it creates energy. This energy can be used to create a renewable source for us to use.
A wind turbine is typically used to convert the energy from the wind into mechanical energy. A wind turbine is effective at turning the winds kinetic energy into mechanical energy or electrical energy. The mechanical energy that is produced is generally used for pumping water into areas that are remote, but can also be used for other things. When turbines are also great at generating electricity for homes and businesses.
A wind turbine can come in two kinds, with a vertical axis or a horizontal axis. The most common ones have horizontal axis and can produce a great amount of electric power. Because it is renewable, when energy is a great alternative to using fossil fuels. It is safe and clean, and there are minimal operating costs. It is certainly a kind of energy that should be invested in for the future.
